Most remodeling and cleanout debris can go in a roll-off. New York's disposal rules and the transfer station set the limits.
New York bans burying waste tires in landfills, so tires need a separate route. The state also requires residents to recycle computers, monitors, TVs, and other covered electronics. In the Village, you can drop electronics at the Recycling Center or call Public Works to set up one of the scheduled curbside e-waste pickups.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, pesticides, propane tanks, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster. Westchester County's Household Material Recovery Facility in Valhalla takes household chemicals, batteries, propane tanks, and similar items by reservation. Call 914-813-5425 to book a visit, and bring a valid driver's license. The facility doesn't accept paint.
Refrigerators, air conditioners, and other large appliances need special handling, so mention them when you book.
