Most household and building debris is fine for your container. The limits come from New York State and from the facilities that take the load.
New York has banned many electronics from the trash since January 1, 2015. The Department of Environmental Conservation says TVs, computers, monitors, tablets, printers, and game consoles can't be thrown away with regular waste. The state also bans burying whole tires in a landfill.
The Village sets its own rules for curbside trash. Car batteries, propane tanks, and motor oil can't go to the curb, and refrigerators need their doors removed. The same thinking applies to your container. Keep batteries, propane, and oil out, and take the doors off any fridge.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos don't belong in a roll-off either. Residents can drop used motor oil at the Department of Public Works on weekdays, and the Village picks up electronics if you call.
