Most renovation and cleanout debris can go in your container. New York State law and the disposal facilities set the limits.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has banned many electronics from the trash since January 1, 2015. The ban covers computers, laptops, tablets, monitors, printers, game consoles, and TVs, and it applies to landfills and waste-to-energy plants alike. The state also prohibits burying waste tires in landfills.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster either. The Town collects household chemicals and paint at its S.T.O.P. drop-off days during the year.
Locally, Oceanside Sanitary District No. 7 will pick up electronics, refrigerators, and air conditioners on Mondays and Tuesdays if you call. That's often the simplest way to keep those items out of your dumpster.
Ask your account manager about anything you're unsure of before you load it.
