If your dumpster sits on private property, like your driveway or a job site, you generally won't need a City permit in Crestview. Placing it on a street or in the public right-of-way changes that.
Crestview's development rules require City approval before anything is placed or deposited on a street or right-of-way. They also say a required off-street parking space can't be used to store a dumpster. The City doesn't publish a fee or review time for a container permit, so ask before you set a delivery date.
Crestview Community Development Services handles permits from City Hall at 198 North Wilson Street. Florida law treats some items as more than ordinary household waste. The state's solid waste law names white goods, batteries, tires, petroleum products, pesticides, solvents, and hazardous substances as materials that need special handling. Okaloosa County offers a better route for many of them. Its solid waste page says county households can drop off up to five passenger car or light truck tires a month for free, and appliances are free too, up to five a month. Household hazardous waste like paint, pesticides, pool chemicals, batteries, fuel, and fluorescent bulbs is free for residents at 1759 S. Construction and demolition debris follows a different path. The County says it goes to special construction and demolition landfills, which charge their own fees at the gate. So a load of roofing or framing debris may head somewhere other than Baker.
