A dumpster placed on private property, such as your driveway or a job site, generally doesn't need a City permit in Deltona. If it will sit on a City street, swale, or sidewalk, you'll need a Right of Way Use Permit first.
The City's Building Services Division issues it. The City lists its right-of-way fees on its zoning and land development fees page: $50 for a single-family driveway, $150 for a Right of Way Use Agreement, and $250 for all other right-of-way activities. The permit form doesn't list containers by name, so ask which fee applies before you budget for it. Permits go only to property owners, licensed contractors, and utility franchise holders, and starting work without one adds a penalty equal to the permit fee.

Most construction and cleanout debris can go in a container. Florida law and the county's facilities set the limits.
Florida law keeps four things out of landfills: lead-acid batteries, used oil, white goods like washers and refrigerators, and yard trash, which has its own rules. The state also says whole tires can't be buried in a landfill. The City of Deltona repeats two of these for residents. Motor oil isn't allowed in any Florida landfill, and car batteries can't be thrown away at all.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster. The City's solid waste page lists common household hazards to keep out, including pool chemicals, pesticides, lighter fluid, fluorescent bulbs, and mercury thermostats. Residents can take those items, along with computers and TVs, to the West Volusia Transfer Station.
Set aside appliances, tires, and yard debris, and mention them when you book. Your account manager can tell you how to handle anything you're unsure about.

Trash from Deltona's side of the county goes first to the West Volusia Transfer Station at 3151 East New York Avenue, DeLand, FL 32724. The City lists its hours as Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can call the station at 386-943-7889. Volusia County runs it, and residents can drop off household hazardous waste and electronics there.
The transfer station is a stop along the way, not the final destination. Volusia County packs west side garbage into larger trailers there and hauls it to the Tomoka Landfill at 1990 Tomoka Farms Road in Port Orange. The landfill is open Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and closed on Sunday.
For you, that means disposal fees follow the county's schedule, whatever the route. Because of the City's franchise rule, your account manager will confirm how your load is handled and explain the fees before delivery.
