Most household and construction debris is fine to load. Florida law and the county landfill's rules set the limits.
Florida keeps several items out of landfills, including lead-acid batteries, used oil, white goods like refrigerators and water heaters, and yard trash in many cases. State law also says waste tires may only be disposed of at a permitted facility.
The Highlands County landfill doesn't accept hazardous waste at all. It takes asbestos only with 48 hours' notice, and it handles tires, appliances, and yard waste on their own fee lines.
Liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and propane tanks can't go in a standard dumpster either.
If a banned item shows up in a load, the landfill charges a separation fee. When you're unsure about something, ask your account manager before it goes in.
