Most building debris and household junk is fine to load. California's rules set the main limits.
CalRecycle bans a long list of items from the trash in California. That includes all batteries, fluorescent bulbs, paint, solvents, motor oil and filters, antifreeze, propane tanks, and asbestos. Tires and electronics like TVs, computers, and microwaves are banned too. Treated wood, such as old fence posts and deck boards, must be handled as hazardous waste.
Fuel, liquids, and other hazardous waste can't go in a standard dumpster either.
California's building code also asks new construction and demolition projects to recycle at least 65 percent of their debris. If your job has a building permit, keep clean wood, metal, and concrete separate when you can.
