Most renovation debris and household junk can go in. The limits come from California's trash rules and county landfill rules.
CalRecycle's list of waste banned from the trash covers batteries, fluorescent tubes, paint, solvents, antifreeze, motor oil, and tires. TVs, monitors, computers, and other electronics are on the list too.
Some building materials need extra care. Treated wood, such as old fences and deck boards, must be handled as hazardous waste in California. Asbestos from older flooring, siding, or roofing can't go in a dumpster.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and propane tanks can't go in a standard dumpster. Kiefer Landfill also asks that fluids and batteries be removed from items before they arrive.
