In Redwood City, the Engineering team runs the Street Encroachment Permit Program. The City's permit page says Engineering also handles permits for PODs and bins. A container in a metered downtown space may also need a temporary parking meter permit, so ask about that too.
The Permit Counter at City Hall, 1017 Middlefield Road, is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The City recommends booking an appointment, since walk-in service can be limited. It doesn't list a review time online, so apply well before delivery.

Tires are banned from the trash too, along with propane tanks and other gas cylinders. Wood treated with chemical preservatives must be handled as hazardous waste, and so must asbestos, found in some older roofing, flooring, and siding.
