Most remodel, roofing, and cleanout debris can go in your container. California's trash bans and the rules at the disposal site set the limits.
CalRecycle lists many items that are banned from the trash across the state. These include all batteries, fluorescent and LED bulbs, oil-based and latex paint, pesticides, antifreeze, motor oil, tires, and propane tanks. Treated wood with chemical preservatives has to be handled as hazardous waste, too. TVs, monitors, laptops, microwaves, and other electronics also stay out of the trash.
Hazardous waste, liquids, solvents, fuel, and asbestos aren't allowed in a standard dumpster either.
El Centro also asks builders to keep at least 65 percent of construction and demolition waste out of the landfill under the state green building code. That can mean sorting metal, wood, and concrete. Your account manager can go over the rules before you load anything uncertain.
