California treats batteries, TVs, computers and other electronics, fluorescent lamps, anything with mercury, aerosol cans that aren't empty, and solar panels as universal waste. None of them can go in the trash or a landfill, so they must go to a recycler.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster either.
The Fink Road landfill also refuses used oil, paint thinner, car batteries, car bodies, sealed containers, and free-flowing liquids. Appliances, mattresses, and tires are priced separately and must be declared, so tell us about them when you book. Treated wood and some asbestos need special handling and prior approval.
