Most remodel and cleanout debris is fine to load. The limits come from California's statewide list of wastes banned from the trash.
That list covers fluorescent tubes and bulbs, every kind of battery, latex and oil-based paint, aerosol cans that still hold paint or solvent, antifreeze, and motor oil and filters. Electronics are on it as well, including TVs, monitors, laptops, printers, microwaves, and cell phones. CalRecycle also bans tires from the trash to prevent mosquito breeding and tire fires.
Hazardous waste, liquids, solvents, fuel, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster either. La Mirada residents can drop off household chemicals for free at Los Angeles County's household hazardous waste events, which the Sanitation Districts help run.
For TVs, computers, fluorescent tubes, and household batteries, the City's trash service offers curbside pickup by appointment. Ask your account manager about any item you're unsure of before it goes in.
