When a dumpster stays on private property, like your driveway or a job site, you usually won't need a City permit in Lodi. If it sits in a street, alley, or sidewalk, you're in the public right-of-way.
The City of Lodi requires an encroachment permit for any activity in, under, or over its right-of-way. The City's encroachment permit page lists a $61 fee for a non-construction permit and a $129 fee for sidewalk or driveway work on a single parcel. The application fee isn't refunded, and sending in an application doesn't mean it's approved.
You can apply at the Public Works Department, 221 W. Pine Street, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The application is also available online. The City doesn't post a review time, so leave room in your schedule.

Most remodeling, cleanout, and construction debris is fine. California's trash rules and the county landfill's limits set what stays out.
CalRecycle's list of items banned from the trash covers all batteries, fluorescent tubes, LED bulbs, and electronics such as TVs, monitors, computers, and printers. It also covers tires, propane tanks and other gas cylinders, asbestos, and wood treated with chemical preservatives.
The North County landfill turns away septic waste, liquid waste, drums larger than 5 gallons, burned waste, and ammonia refrigerant units. It also refuses large loads of soil or gravel, though it takes small pickup loads.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, and fuel can't go in a standard dumpster. San Joaquin County residents can bring those to the county's household hazardous waste facility in Stockton instead.

Lodi debris doesn't travel far. The North County Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill sits at 17720 E. Harney Lane, Lodi, CA 95240, just east of Jack Tone Road. San Joaquin County has owned and run it since 1991.
The landfill is open every day, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closes on New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The county's facility page notes that the 4 p.m. closing time is strictly enforced. It doesn't accept cash.
The site takes household and commercial waste, construction and demolition debris, agricultural waste, appliances, and tires. Your account manager will confirm your load's destination and explain the fees before delivery.
